# The 395 overnight: fall color without the checklist

**Friday, October 9 - Saturday, October 10, 2026 | All times Pacific**

**Four independent day plans:** Friday **CA-108 or CA-120** inbound; Saturday **CA-120 or CA-108** outbound. Use the two selectors at [the local website](http://127.0.0.1:8765/) to update the actual route, schedule, food, charging and navigation together. Choices persist in the URL. These are state highways, not interstates.

**Default:** leave 94085 **Friday at 10 AM**, 100% battery, via **CA-108 -> Bridgeport Twin Lakes -> Westin**; Saturday **CA-120/Tioga, transit only**. Aim **9-10 PM home**, with the main grade near Moccasin cleared around **5:30 PM; latest planning target 6**. **Friday CA-120 recommends 8 AM to retain Twin Lakes**; it is not an equally relaxed 10 AM replacement.

Default distance **609.2 mapped miles**. Friday: **CA-108 296.6 / CA-120 327.7 mi**. Saturday: **CA-120 312.6 / CA-108 319.2 mi**. Sabrina adds **107.5 mi** to either Saturday option. Cached OSRM distances are not traffic estimates. Sonora fits Bridgeport geographically, not because it is gentler.

**Six scenery stops retained for every combination:** **Bridgeport Twin Lakes Friday**; **Convict, conditional Hot Creek, June Beach, Silver/Rush Creek and Lundy Saturday**. The hero adds only the selected pass crossings. Both-120 omits Sonora Pass; both-108 omits Tioga. **No Tenaya, Olmsted or other Yosemite viewpoint stops.** All visits remain subject to safe conditions and daylight, not guaranteed regardless of delay.

**Optional Lake Sabrina toggle:** possible as a **5:30 AM Saturday departure**, short road-end visit, packed breakfast and **Bishop Tesla** charge. About **three extra hours**, partly recovered with shorter shore visits. It is not compatible with the ordinary 7 AM start plus every retained visit. The full southern trio and Blue Lake hike remain excluded.

**Tesla-owned Superchargers first**, plus hotel destination charging; no normal Rivian stop. Friday CA-108 lunch is **Mia's pickup before Cold Springs charging**; CA-120 lunch moves to Groveland. Saturday CA-108 lunch moves to Bridgeport instead of backtracking to Whoa Nellie. The 23-food collection is filtered to the selected route areas; alternative-time hours are unconfirmed.

## Friday A: CA-108 inbound, default

**Route:** Sunnyvale -> Mia's pickup -> Cold Springs Tesla -> Sonora Pass -> Bridgeport -> Twin Lakes -> Westin. **Central Sonora is a reserve backup, not an automatic stop.**

| When | Plan |
|---|---|
| **10 AM** | Leave fully charged. ABRP reaches Cold Springs directly at **11%**, before Mia's small pickup detour: possible, but thin. Before bypassing Sonora, require the car's live forecast **including Mia's** to show **at least 15%, preferably 20%, at Cold Springs**. |
| **Only if reserve requires it** | **Sonora Tesla**, 130 W Stockton Road: a brief **5-10-minute starting allowance**, adjusted to energy needed. Skip if the live direct forecast supports the reserve. If it stays near 11%, top up. No planned Sonora lunch. |
| **About 1:15-2:30 PM** | **Mia's Brick Oven Pizza** (Google 4.5/829): collect a ready order by car **before** plugging into **Cold Springs Tesla**, 29820 CA-108. Then eat during the **30-40-minute** charge. The **13-minute-each-way highway walk is not recommended**. Long kitchen wait? Use packed lunch. |
| **3:45-5 PM window** | Cross **Sonora Pass**, then **Bridgeport Tesla**, 453 Main Street: **20-30 minutes**. Food backups: **Jolly Kone 7 minutes**, **The Barn 8**, **Chiles y Milagros 10**, each way on foot. A queue/full meal will extend the stop. **If not ready to leave Bridgeport by 5 PM, skip Twin Lakes.** |
| **About 4:15-5:45 PM** | Allow **18 minutes** from Bridgeport to **Twin Lakes**, then a **30-45-minute** lakeside visit using designated access. Shorten if late; **leave the lake by 5:45 PM**. No dirt-road exploring just to reach a saved pin. |
| **6-8 PM hotel-arrival target** | Twin Lakes -> Westin is about **1h15** driving. Confirm hotel charging starts, then **walk to dinner: Toomey's 5 minutes or Shelter 4 minutes**. Both are Google 4.2: convenience choices, not top-rated destinations. **Skadi** remains the stronger food-first upgrade if you accept another outing. |

Google's measured legs add to **5h53-7h13 driving**, before charging, the lake visit, food and parking. Budget **8-10 hours door to door**; charger windows are allocations, not separately measured appointments. Cut the lake, not the battery reserve, if delayed.

Skadi lists Friday **5-9 PM**, but last seating and tables are unconfirmed. Do not book an inflexible early dinner. **Vulcania is downgraded:** positive Xiaohongshu posts conflict with **Google 3.8 / Yelp 3.6**. Packed food remains the late-arrival fallback.

## Friday B: CA-120 inbound, Twin Lakes retained

**Route:** 94085 -> New Priest Grade -> Tesla Groveland -> Tioga transit -> Tesla Bridgeport -> Twin Lakes -> Westin.

| When | Plan |
|---|---|
| **8 AM recommended**, 100% | Earlier start buys the northbound Bridgeport detour after Tioga. If keeping 10 AM, assess the real Bridgeport arrival including charging/park delays; Twin Lakes is conditional on the existing 5 PM cutoff. |
| **About 10:45-11:35 AM** | **Tesla Groveland**, 40-50-minute charge/handling allowance, governed by live 20%+ next-charger reserve. Ready **Cocina Michoacana / Pizza Factory** pickup only if already serving; otherwise packed lunch. No Cold Springs/Mia's detour. |
| **About 2:30-3:15 PM** | **Tesla Bridgeport**, 20-30-minute starting charge allowance; include Twin Lakes before the hotel in the real energy route. Groveland->Bridgeport via Tioga was 2h41 / 117 mi in Maps, before park delays. |
| **About 3:35-4:20 PM** | **Bridgeport Twin Lakes**, short 30-45-minute visit. Same designated access and final 5:45 lake-departure cutoff as Friday A. |
| **About 5:45-7 PM** | Westin, confirm overnight charging, Village dinner as in Friday A. |

This is a **preserve-the-lake plan, not the old “Tioga means drop Bridgeport” fallback**. It costs about 31 mapped miles versus Friday A. If a late on-the-day route switch cannot reach the lake in daylight, an earlier start—not rushing—is needed to retain it. Corrected-car ABRP has **not** been rerun for this exact alternative; use live Tesla energy predictions.

## Saturday A: CA-120 outbound, default

**Route:** Westin -> Convict -> conditional Hot Creek -> June Lake Beach -> Silver/Rush Creek -> Lundy Lake -> Lee Vining lunch -> Tioga transit only -> Tesla Groveland -> New Priest Grade -> home.

| When | Plan |
|---|---|
| **6:45-7:15 AM** | Load at 6:45, leave the Westin around **7**, finish **Shea Schat's** breakfast pickup by **7:15**. Aim for **100% battery**. If the hotel charge falls short, use Mammoth's Tesla first and shorten optional scenery. |
| **7:40-8:30** | **Convict Lake:** 50-minute east/south-shore out-and-back and photos, not the full three-mile loop. Current color: near peak. |
| **8:55-9:25** | **Hot Creek:** morning steam/blue-green water, supported by several Xiaohongshu visits. **Conditional: USFS reports 3 miles of GRAVEL approach.** Skip if avoiding gravel or road conditions are poor. Stay on designated access; no water entry. |
| **10:10-10:30** | **June Lake Beach:** a real short shore stop, then continue through the village. Signed legal parking only; exact surface/fees unverified. No paddling in the forecast wind. |
| **10:50-11:20** | **Silver Lake / Rush Creek:** concentrated autumn-color stop. **Resort/Cafe parking is GRAVEL**, CA-158 paved. If avoiding gravel, skip that lot; no paved alternative was verified. Shorten exposed walking if wind picks up. |
| **12:05-12:40 PM** | **Lundy Lake / lower canyon:** new autumn priority, near peak in the current report. Use legal public shore access near the resort-area reference pin; private campground parking is not assumed. **Not** the longer upper-canyon waterfall hike or rough-road extension. |
| **1:05-1:45** | **Whoa Nellie Deli / Tioga Gas Mart:** lunch and restroom, **not a Rivian charging stop**. Google 4.5/1,130; mixed Xiaohongshu opinions. Food ready by **1:25**, or packed lunch. |
| **1:45 target; 2 PM latest in normal conditions** | Head west over Tioga. Check the live mountain-exit ETA, not just the eventual home arrival. |
| **Tioga crossing** | **Transit only: no Yosemite viewpoint stops.** The former 35-minute Tenaya/Olmsted allocation becomes flexibility for the autumn lakes and daylight margin, while retaining the 2 PM Lee Vining departure limit. |
| **About 4:10-5 PM** | **Tesla Groveland:** charge for **20%+ predicted at home**, with early dinner. **Cocina Michoacana 3 minutes / Pizza Factory 6 minutes**, each way on foot. Aim to leave around **5 PM**, no later than 5:30 in normal conditions. |
| **5:30 PM target; latest 6** | **Past CA-120/New Priest Grade near Moccasin**, not Old Priest Grade. A drive-through checkpoint, not a town detour. Clear the remaining foothills toward Oakdale before dark. Sunset **6:31**, civil twilight ends **6:57**; shade/cloud can darken roads sooner. |
| **9-10 PM target** | Home in 94085, allowing lower-elevation dinner/rest and traffic. Earlier is fine; do not linger in the mountains to fill the evening. |

**If behind:** skip Hot Creek or June Beach and shorten exposed lake walks. Yosemite viewpoints are already removed. Protect the **daylight mountain exit**, not every pin. Necessary charging comes first.

The default retains the early start, all northern lake visits and no repeated Yosemite sightseeing. Sabrina is a separate extension below, not silently included here.

## Saturday B: CA-108 outbound, same lake shortlist

**Morning:** same departure/Convict/Hot Creek/June Beach/Silver/Lundy windows as Saturday A. Then **continue north from Lundy**, avoiding the Lee Vining lunch backtrack.

| When | Plan |
|---|---|
| **About 1:10-2 PM** | **Tesla Bridgeport**, lunch/30-45-minute charging allowance. **The Barn** (8-minute walk, Google + XHS), Jolly Kone (7 minutes), or packed food. Charge for the real Sonora crossing, with 20%+ at Cold Springs. |
| **2 PM target, latest planning target 2:30** | Westbound over **Sonora Pass**. Twin Lakes has already been visited Friday; no repeat detour. |
| **About 3:45-4:20 PM** | **Cold Springs**, past the high pass but still in the mountains. Maps Bridgeport->Cold Springs: 1h41 / 71 mi; allow around two hours. Tesla top-up only if the actual next-stop reserve needs it. |
| **About 5-5:35 PM** | **Tesla Sonora**, charge for 20%+ at home; starting allowance 15-30 minutes. Ready Blaze/Yoshoku pickup only if it fits. Aim to finish around 5:30 and continue the remaining foothills toward Oakdale before dark. |
| **9-10 PM target**, earlier fine | Low-elevation return, food/rest and traffic allowance. Maps Sonora->94085 snapshot: 2h12 / 122 mi. |

No Yosemite that day, no Groveland charge and no Whoa Nellie lunch. The **29% Groveland ABRP result does not apply** to this alternate crossing. It is about 6.6 mapped miles longer than Saturday A, but drive time/charging and Sonora's winding workload matter more than distance alone.

## Optional Saturday: add Lake Sabrina to either return

**Feasible as an ambitious short-stop extension, not a relaxed addition.** Maps via Bishop: Westin->Sabrina **1h13 / 62.1 mi**, Sabrina->Bishop Tesla **25m / 18.9 mi**, Bishop Tesla->Convict **41m / 37.1 mi**. Versus direct Westin->Convict, this adds about **107.5 mapped miles, two driving hours**, plus a 30-minute visit and 30-40-minute charge: **about three extra hours**.

| When | Extension schedule |
|---|---|
| **5:30 AM**, 100% | Leave Westin, **packed breakfast**, no Shea Schat's pickup. US 395->Bishop->CA-168. Allow 1h30; early travel is dark, and the high approach may be shaded/icy. Wait for adequate visibility rather than rush. |
| **About 7-7:30 AM** | **Lake Sabrina road-end/shore view** near the Boat Landing reference. Use legal public access; no assumed permission to park in a private lot. No Blue Lake hike, North/South Lake detours, boat rental or café wait. |
| **About 7:55-8:35 AM** | **Tesla Bishop, 151 S Warren Street**, 30-40-minute starting allowance. Eat packed breakfast. Live routing must include all northern scenery and the selected pass with 20%+ next-charger reserve. |
| **About 9:20-9:45 AM** | Convict short shore view, not the default 50-minute walk. |
| **About 10:10-10:30 AM** | Optional Hot Creek, gravel caveat unchanged; first pressure valve if behind. |
| **About 11:10-11:25 AM** | June Beach, short shore view. |
| **About 11:45 AM-12:05 PM** | Silver/Rush Creek; sampled gravel parking caveat unchanged. |
| **About 12:50-1:15 PM** | Lundy Lake/lower canyon, short visit only. |
| **CA-120:** about **1:35-1:55 PM** | Whoa Nellie ready order or packed lunch; **westbound by 2 PM**, then the original daylight exit deadlines. |
| **CA-108:** about **1:45-2:20 PM** | Bridgeport Tesla/packed lunch; **2:15 departure target, 2:30 latest planning departure**. Adjusted windows: Cold Springs about **4:10-4:30**, Sonora charge about **5:15-5:35**. Monitor the remaining foothill-exit ETA, not just home arrival; shorten morning visits if required charging would push it late. |

**Go/no-go:** if the 5:30 start, CA-168 access/visibility, hotel charge or Bishop session cannot support this timing, disable Sabrina or explicitly shorten optional scenery. A slow charger, parking queue or icy approach can consume the small buffer; the 9-10 PM home window does not authorize mountain driving after dark. Sabrina's current color/water level and exact parking surface are **unverified**, despite actual XHS visits supporting the choice. No new full ABRP simulation or extra panorama inspection is claimed.

## Charging: the short version

- **Friday CA-108:** Cold Springs **80-85%**, Bridgeport **75-85%**, adjusted for **20%+ predicted at the next stop**, including Twin Lakes. Sonora is optional reserve insurance. The **11% modeled direct Cold Springs arrival** excludes Mia's pickup and makes skipping Sonora conditional.
- **Friday CA-120:** Tesla Groveland then Bridgeport; live 20%+ next-charger/hotel forecast governs the charge. No new modeled percentages for this variant.
- **Tesla-owned Superchargers first:** no normal Rivian stop. Non-Tesla is a last resort only when necessary and no suitable Tesla is safely reachable. **The generic "Lee Vining Tesla" result at 129 Mattly Avenue is slow J1772, not a Supercharger.**
- **Westin:** call **760-934-0400** to confirm whether the **Tesla/NACS destination ports** are complimentary, working, and available. Paid J1772 reviews concern different ports. If charging is unavailable or too slow, use Mammoth's Tavern Road Supercharger Friday evening.
- **Saturday CA-120 without Sabrina:** hotel 100% -> Tesla Groveland, **29% in the existing ABRP benchmark**. If short, Mammoth Tesla before leaving. Groveland departure requires 20%+ at home.
- **Saturday CA-108:** Tesla Bridgeport before the pass, Cold Springs if necessary, Sonora for the home reserve. Do not apply Tioga's 29% result.
- **Sabrina enabled:** add **Bishop Tesla after Sabrina** and budget 30-40 minutes initially. The 29% no-Sabrina benchmark is **invalid for this longer route**. Live elevation-aware energy/charging is required; no guessed full-route battery result is presented.

**Only the actionable flags:** Sonora's comparable summit section has about **2.2x Tioga's turning per mile** (Appendix H). Check both passes. Saturday wind strengthens from 11 AM; keep exposed afternoon walks short and cross earlier if conditions worsen. Yosemite admission applies.

**Surface exceptions:** Hot Creek's **3-mile gravel approach** is reported by USFS; Silver Resort parking was sampled as **gravel**. New June/Lundy parking is unverified. The panorama audit remains **40 images inspected / 48 captured**; no extra images were added (Appendix I).

## A. Navigation links

These build routes, not stored traffic forecasts. Google Maps handles driving directions; the car's navigation handles energy. Check the intended pass is open. Each link uses no more than three intermediate waypoints.

The numbered links below are the default **Friday CA-108 / Saturday CA-120**. Alternative links follow; the website generates the selected plan's links automatically.

1. [Friday: 94085 -> Mia's pickup -> Cold Springs Tesla -> Bridgeport Tesla](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=Sunnyvale+CA+94085&destination=Tesla+Supercharger+453+Main+St+Bridgeport+CA&waypoints=Mia%27s+Brick+Oven+Pizza+30040+CA-108+Cold+Springs+CA%7CTesla+Supercharger+29820+CA-108+Cold+Springs+CA&travelmode=driving). Verify **CA-108/Sonora Pass**; add [Sonora Tesla](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Tesla+Supercharger+130+W+Stockton+Rd+Sonora+CA) only if reserve requires it. Mia's is explicitly before charging.
2. [Friday: Bridgeport -> saved Twin Lakes -> Westin](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=Tesla+Supercharger+453+Main+St+Bridgeport+CA&destination=The+Westin+Monache+Resort+Mammoth&waypoints=38.1558562%2C-119.3502737&travelmode=driving)

Remove Hot Creek if skipping gravel.
4. The resort is a geographic reference, not permission to park on private property.
5. [Lee Vining -> Tioga transit -> Groveland Tesla -> New Priest Grade -> 94085](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=Whoa+Nellie+Deli+Lee+Vining+CA&destination=Sunnyvale+CA+94085&waypoints=37.910528%2C-119.257886%7CTesla+Supercharger+11875+Ponderosa+Ln+Groveland+CA%7C37.8243183%2C-120.2829655&travelmode=driving). The Tioga coordinate constrains the crossing, not a sightseeing stop.

- **Friday CA-120:** [94085 -> New Priest Grade -> Groveland Tesla](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=Sunnyvale+CA+94085&destination=Tesla+Supercharger+11875+Ponderosa+Ln+Groveland+CA&waypoints=37.8243183%2C-120.2829655&travelmode=driving), then [Groveland -> Tioga -> Bridgeport Tesla](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=Tesla+Supercharger+11875+Ponderosa+Ln+Groveland+CA&destination=Tesla+Supercharger+453+Main+St+Bridgeport+CA&waypoints=37.910528%2C-119.257886&travelmode=driving), then the same Twin Lakes->Westin link above.
- **Saturday CA-108:** use the common morning link, then [Silver -> Lundy -> Bridgeport Tesla](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=Silver+Lake+Resort+June+Lake+CA&destination=Tesla+Supercharger+453+Main+St+Bridgeport+CA&waypoints=Lundy+Lake+Resort+California&travelmode=driving), [Bridgeport -> Sonora Pass -> Cold Springs](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=Tesla+Supercharger+453+Main+St+Bridgeport+CA&destination=Tesla+Supercharger+29820+CA-108+Cold+Springs+CA&waypoints=38.3279273%2C-119.6371813&travelmode=driving), [Cold Springs -> Sonora Tesla -> home](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=Tesla+Supercharger+29820+CA-108+Cold+Springs+CA&destination=Sunnyvale+CA+94085&waypoints=Tesla+Supercharger+130+W+Stockton+Rd+Sonora+CA&travelmode=driving).
- **Sabrina extension:** [Westin -> Bishop -> Sabrina -> Bishop Tesla](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=The+Westin+Monache+Resort+Mammoth&destination=Tesla+Supercharger+151+S+Warren+St+Bishop+CA&waypoints=Tesla+Supercharger+151+S+Warren+St+Bishop+CA%7CLake+Sabrina+Boat+Landing+100+Lake+Sabrina+Rd+Bishop+CA&travelmode=driving), then [Bishop -> Convict -> Hot Creek -> June Beach -> Silver](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=Tesla+Supercharger+151+S+Warren+St+Bishop+CA&destination=Silver+Lake+Resort+June+Lake+CA&waypoints=Convict+Lake+Brook+Trout+Lookout%7CHot+Creek+Geologic+Site%7CJune+Lake+Beach+California&travelmode=driving), then the chosen return route. Remove Hot Creek if skipping gravel. Passing the Bishop charger outbound constrains the CA-168 approach; the planned charge is on the way back after Sabrina.

## B. Why these places

| Place | Decision |
|---|---|
| **Convict Lake** | Keep: strong mountain/lake scenery, easy access, a worthwhile short walk. |
| **June Lake Beach + Silver/Rush Creek** | A short June shore stop plus concentrated color at Silver/Rush Creek. No separate village tour. |
| **Bridgeport Twin Lakes** | Keep a short Friday visit with the 10 AM / Sonora plan. Your pin is **38.1558562, -119.3502737**, not Mammoth's Twin Lakes. Drop if leaving Bridgeport after 5 PM. |
| **Hot Creek** | Added as a conditional morning stop: repeated Xiaohongshu support for geothermal scenery. Gravel access; skip if unsuitable. |
| **Sagehen Summit** | Skip: past-peak reports and unrewarding access for this trip. |
| **Upper Rock Creek** | Skip: fading/past-peak upper-elevation color and a southern detour. Lower canyon conditions can differ. |
| **Lundy Lake** | Added autumn priority with the wider Saturday budget. Lake/lower canyon only, not the upper waterfall hike. |
| **Thousand Island Lake** | A backcountry hike, not a drive-up lake stop. |
| **Lake Sabrina** | Optional 5:30 AM Saturday extension: road-end view plus Bishop Tesla, not the Blue Lake hike. Current access/color and exact parking unverified. |
| **Laws Museum / Alabama Hills** | Still excluded; not stacked onto Sabrina. |

**What “best on Xiaohongshu” really means here:** four reread posts strongly praise **North Lake, South Lake and Lake Sabrina**. Only **Sabrina** now has an optional early-start plan; the whole trio is still excluded. This is a route-fit shortlist, not a claim to visit every viral spot or guarantee peak color this Saturday.

For the current weekend, the October 7 county report supports Sonora, Bridgeport Twin Lakes, Convict, June/Silver and Lundy. **Mayayay's pinned comment lists the near-peak weekend picks by citing that report**, not by claiming firsthand visits to all of them. 半斤 found June/Gull partly green October 4-5. Hot Creek adds scenic variety. **Tenaya and Olmsted are removed at your request**, despite appearing in the posts. Jerry says much of Tioga still looked green and acknowledges warming/brightening photos. **Kino's Twin Lakes Overlook is Mammoth's, not Bridgeport's.**

## C. Driving evidence and timing

Research was checked **October 8, 2026**. The latest comparisons used Google Maps' displayed **Friday, October 9, 10 AM** setting. These are **CA-108 and CA-120**, not interstates.

| Measurement | Observed result |
|---|---|
| **Friday 10 AM**, 94085 -> Westin via CA-120/Tioga | **5h-6h30, 250 miles**, no Twin Lakes |
| Same departure via CA-108/Sonora | **5h10-6h50, 270 miles**, no Twin Lakes |
| **Friday 10 AM**, 94085 -> Bridgeport Tesla via Sonora | **4h20-5h40, 217 miles** |
| Bridgeport Tesla -> saved Twin Lakes pin | **18 minutes, 11.8 miles** |
| Twin Lakes -> Westin | **1h15, 64.4 miles** |
| Westin -> Convict Lake lakeshore reference | **15 minutes, 10.9 miles**; allow 25 minutes with parking |
| Convict Lake lakeshore -> Silver Lake Resort | **36 minutes, 28.3 miles**; allow 50 minutes including access/parking |
| Silver -> gas mart directly, if skipping Lundy | **17 minutes, 13.5 miles**; allow 30 minutes |
| Groveland -> 94085 | 2h 38m, 133 miles |
| **Saturday 2 PM**, gas-mart property -> Tesla Groveland via Tioga | **Typically 2h20, 90.4 miles** |
| Convict -> Hot Creek -> June Beach | **15 min / 7.1 mi**, then **34 min / 23.5 mi** |
| June Beach -> Silver -> Lundy -> gas mart | **14 min / 6.9 mi; 34 min / 25.8 mi; 18 min / 12.7 mi** |
| Groveland -> Moccasin via **New Priest Grade** | **18 min / 8.1 mi**; allow 30 minutes |
| Moccasin -> 94085 | **2h18 / 126 mi**, Thursday snapshot |
| Home -> Groveland via New Priest Grade | **2h31 / 133 mi**, Thursday snapshot |
| Groveland -> Bridgeport via Tioga | **2h41 / 117 mi**, Thursday snapshot |
| Lundy -> Bridgeport Tesla | **30m / 23.7 mi**, Thursday snapshot |
| Bridgeport -> Cold Springs via Sonora | **1h41 / 71 mi**, Thursday snapshot |
| Cold Springs -> Sonora Tesla | **34m / 27.1 mi**, Thursday snapshot |
| Sonora Tesla -> 94085 | **2h12 / 122 mi**, Thursday snapshot |
| Westin -> Sabrina **via Bishop** | **1h13 / 62.1 mi**, Thursday snapshot |
| Sabrina -> Tesla Bishop, 151 S Warren St | **25m / 18.9 mi**, Thursday snapshot |
| Bishop Tesla -> Convict | **41m / 37.1 mi**, Thursday snapshot |

Local legs are Thursday snapshots, not individually scheduled Saturday forecasts. The measurements use the actual Convict lookout, lake-area reference pins and the gas-mart property; the plan adds access/parking slack.

**Charging-location correction:** the generic Lee Vining "Tesla" result at **129 Mattly Avenue** is slow J1772. It is not used. The gas-mart property at 22 Vista Point Drive remains the lunch reference, **not a scheduled Rivian charge**.

Friday's measured legs total **293 miles / 5h53-7h13 driving**. With 60-85 minutes charging/handling, 30-45 minutes at Twin Lakes and contingency, budget **8-10 hours**. **6-8 PM at the hotel** is a planning window, not a promise. Use the 5 PM Bridgeport and 5:45 PM lake cutoffs.

**Saturday daylight budget:** 1:45 PM departure target, **2 PM latest in normal conditions**, then the measured 2h20 Tioga crossing **without viewpoint stops**, 30-45 minutes charging/food and 30 minutes for the descent. Aim past the main grade around **5:30 PM; latest planning target 6**. Removing Tenaya/Olmsted recovers 35 minutes for lake flexibility and margin, not another detour. The 9-10 PM home window allows lower-elevation food/rest and traffic; earlier is fine.

[USNO October 10 near Moccasin](https://aa.usno.navy.mil/api/rstt/oneday?date=2026-10-10&coords=37.81,-120.30&tz=-8&dst=true): **sunset 6:31 PM; civil twilight ends 6:57 PM PDT**. Civil twilight is not guaranteed usable driving light. Mountain shade, fog and cloud can darken the road sooner. Aim past New Priest Grade around 6 and through the remaining foothills toward Oakdale before dark; do not plan on the last minute of twilight.

**Cached OSRM distances:** Friday CA-108 **296.6**, Friday CA-120 **327.7**, Saturday CA-120 **312.6**, Saturday CA-108 **319.2 mi**. Sabrina adds **107.5 mi** to either Saturday: **420.1 / 426.7 mi** respectively. Default total remains **609.2 mi**. Every variant is summit-constrained; CA-120 uses New Priest Grade; Sabrina uses Bishop/CA-168; Saturday uses CA-158. No Yosemite viewpoint waypoints. These are not live-navigation/road-opening guarantees.

## D. EV modeling and charging details

### Corrected 2024 Model Y model

You confirmed a **standard 2024 Model Y, roughly 60 kWh**. ABRP's matching **2023-2024 Standard range RWD** lists **55.5 kWh** in the picker, replacing the old 51-kWh entry. This is ABRP's modeling value, not a measurement of your pack; nominal/usable ratings and variants differ. Default **19-inch Gemini wheels** were used; actual wheels, degradation and live car data are unconfirmed. **Tesla was set as the strongly preferred network.**

| Updated browser-observed test | Result |
|---|---|
| **100%**, Sunnyvale -> Tesla Cold Springs, no intermediate stop | **146 modeled miles, 47 kWh, 11% arrival**, before the small Mia's pickup detour. Possible in the model, but a thin buffer. |
| **100%**, Westin -> Convict -> Hot Creek -> June Beach -> Silver -> Lundy -> gas-mart lunch -> Tioga -> Tesla Groveland | **177 modeled miles, 38 kWh, 29% arrival**, no intervening charging. This benchmark included a Tenaya reference on the same corridor; that viewpoint stop is now omitted, not a newly simulated whole route. |

Use **Google for trip time**, not ABRP's displayed clock arrivals. The Saturday model ends at Groveland; it is not a complete home-leg prediction. The former 51-kWh benchmarks and their low intermediate percentages are superseded. More stops, wind, cold and degradation can change the real result.

**Sonora decision:** check the car's Cold Springs prediction **including Mia's pickup**. Continue with **at least 15%, preferably 20%**; if near the modeled 11%, take a brief Tesla top-up. The main map includes Mia's before charging and excludes the optional Sonora diversion, but that backup remains marked.

### Tesla-first charging, no normal Rivian stop

**Friday:** Cold Springs and Bridgeport Tesla, with Sonora as reserve backup. **Overnight:** the Westin's destination charging, subject to availability/price confirmation. **Saturday:** Tesla Groveland; if overnight charge is inadequate, top up at Mammoth's Tesla before the scenic route.

That is the **default CA-108-in/CA-120-out** sequence, not universal. **CA-120 inbound** uses Groveland/Bridgeport; **CA-108 outbound** uses Bridgeport/Cold Springs if needed/Sonora. **Sabrina** adds Bishop after the lake. The exact alternatives have not been rerun as full corrected-car ABRP simulations; allowances are planning budgets. Only the two recorded baseline tests have modeled percentages. Especially do not carry **29% at Groveland** over to the Sabrina extension.

Lee Vining is **lunch only**. Ignore other charging networks unless necessary because no suitable Tesla is safely reachable; only then verify compatible plugs, live operation, price and payment. The generic "Lee Vining Tesla" result at **129 Mattly Avenue** is slow J1772, not a Supercharger. Any pass-closure reroute needs a new Tesla charging check rather than reuse of the old Rivian itinerary.

### Westin: Tesla ports and J1772 ports are not interchangeable evidence

**The Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth**
50 Hillside Drive, Mammoth Lakes | **760-934-0400**

Tesla's destination listing and older directories describe guest charging, sometimes complimentary. The current PlugShare listing describes **six ChargePoint J1772 plugs, roughly 3.84-7.68 kW**, with 2026 reviews complaining about price and speed, including a September 27 review.

**This does not prove the separate Tesla destination ports are paid.** Complimentary Tesla charging is unconfirmed.

Ask the front desk: "Are the Tesla/NACS destination chargers complimentary for registered guests, separate from paid ChargePoint J1772? Are they working, what power is available, and are there valet, parking, session, idle, or reservation fees?"

Replenishing about 40 kWh takes roughly **6-7 hours at 7 kW**, or **14-16 hours at 3 kW**, with losses. Check charging at plug-in and before bed. A slow/shared unit may not finish before 7:15 AM.

Backup: **Mammoth Lakes Tesla Supercharger on Tavern Road**, confirmed live in the car. Bring a J1772 adapter if you have one, but do not assume J1772 charging is free.

## E. Routine conditions, fees, and contingencies

### Foliage and weather

Mono County's **October 7** report: Sonora Pass peaking (about 94%); Bridgeport Twin Lakes, Conway Summit, June Lake Loop, and Convict Lake **50-75%, near peak**; Lundy Canyon peaking/Lundy Lake near peak; Sagehen past peak; upper Rock Creek fading/past peak. Near peak means mixed color, not solid gold everywhere.

The **October 8, 4:30 PM NWS Mammoth forecast** gave Friday sunny around **68 F**, night **42 F**, Saturday around **58 F**; gusts about **20 mph Friday and 30 mph Saturday**. A **Lake Wind Advisory and Fire Weather Watch begin Saturday at 11 AM**. Showers and lower snow levels appear Saturday night/Sunday, not a blanket prediction of daytime Saturday snow. This is a town-area forecast, not a summit forecast.

### Roads and Yosemite

Tioga was open when checked. Possible Tuolumne delays remain; some other work listings were Monday-Thursday rather than Saturday. CA-108 had weekday controls, and US 395 had Friday controls in Bridgeport/north of Lee Vining. NPS reported Dome Fire smoke and Glacier Point Road closure. Glacier Point and Yosemite Valley are not in this itinerary.

NPS says **no 2026 timed-entry reservation** is required, but Saturday's transit is still park entry. Standard private-vehicle admission is **$35 for seven days**, unless pass-covered. The current rules also list **$100 per non-US-resident visitor aged 16+**, subject to applicable pass exemptions. Check eligibility for your party; do not infer it from citizenship alone.

| If this happens | Change |
|---|---|
| Selected pass closed or unsuitable | Switch only if the other pass is verified open and the remaining daylight/live reserve supports its plan. A late switch does not inherit an 8 AM departure or guarantee Twin Lakes. |
| Saturday Tioga closed or unsafe | Verify CA-108 and its charging route; no repeat Twin Lakes detour. |
| High passes unsuitable | Use a verified safe alternative; Saturday-evening arrival may no longer be realistic. |
| Hotel charge insufficient | Mammoth Tesla first; shorten optional visits. With Sabrina enabled, reconsider the extension rather than assuming the early packed schedule still works. |
| Live mountain-exit ETA slips or Lee Vining departure would exceed 2 PM | Shorten earlier lake stops; Yosemite viewpoints are already removed. Keep required charging and protect the daylight crossing. |
| Strong wind/smoke/worsening conditions | Shorten exposed stops and cross earlier. No paddling/boating plan. |

Convict's full loop is about three miles and can take **1.5-2+ hours with photos**; the timed out-and-back is deliberate. Hot Creek is a conditional addition with **3 miles gravel per USFS**, no potable water, and **no water entry, swimming, fishing, or crossing fences**. Skip rough access unsuitable for the car.

Bring offline maps, warm/windproof layers, walking shoes, water and packed meals, a headlamp, and vehicle-approved traction equipment. Follow posted chain controls and bear-food-storage rules. Use designated parking; never stop in traffic for a photo.

## G. Food: source-aware map and route tradeoffs

**Ratings and counts below were read on October 8, 2026.** Google links open exact businesses; Yelp pages were read for Skadi, Ursa and Vulcania. Xiaohongshu links are actual posts read, including dissent. A badge identifies evidence, not unanimous endorsement. The eight newest charger-food additions use **Google Maps only**, not Xiaohongshu.

### Eat while charging: choose by walking time

| Charger | Choices: Google rating; ONE-WAY walk | Fit |
|---|---|---|
| **Sonora Tesla** | **Blaze Wings 4.6; 2 min. Yoshoku 4.7; 3 min.** Escondite 4.6; 7 min. Yianni's 4.7; 8 min. | Friday CA-108 optional reserve stop; Saturday CA-108 home-reserve charge. Not on CA-120. |
| **Cold Springs Tesla** | Mia's 4.5 is **13 min / 0.6 mile each way along CA-108**. | Planned **pickup by car before charging**, then eat at the charger. Not a recommended highway walk. |
| **Bridgeport Tesla** | Jolly Kone 4.6; **7 min**. The Barn 4.6 + Xiaohongshu; **8 min**. Chiles y Milagros 4.7; **10 min**. | Friday cutoff 5 PM for Twin Lakes; Saturday CA-108 pass departure around 2 PM, latest planning target 2:30. Ready food only. |
| **Westin overnight** | Toomey's 4.2 + mixed Xiaohongshu; **5 min**. Shelter 4.2; **4 min**. Vulcania 3.8 / Yelp 3.6; **4 min**. | Leave the car plugged in and walk. Toomey's/Shelter are convenient, not exceptional-rating picks. Confirm the hotel's pedestrian exit and kitchen last service. |
| **Groveland Tesla** | Cocina Michoacana 4.4; **3 min**. Pizza Factory 4.2 + Xiaohongshu; **6 min**. | Friday CA-120 food if serving; Saturday CA-120 early dinner/charge and daylight descent. Not on CA-108. |
| **Bishop Tesla · Sabrina only** | No newly measured restaurant walk. | Packed breakfast during charging; no bakery queue or invented food recommendation. |

Fourteen walking routes were originally measured. The active filter now offers **12 Tesla/hotel walking candidates**: Rivian is removed from the normal plan and Mia's highway walk is excluded. Whoa Nellie remains a lunch-only food pin. **Add the walk back, ordering and eating.** Maps does not guarantee sidewalks, private access or hotel shortcuts. Move promptly when charging finishes; keep perishable takeaway cold if saving it.

| [The Rolling Chef 395](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=2489548260967202572) | 4.9 / 132 | Xiaohongshu recommended. Daytime alternative; listed 9 AM opening misses Saturday departure. High rating does not fix poor timing. |
| [Toomey's](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=2917317555025868127), Village | 4.2 / 847 | Xiaohongshu mixed: hearty portions, but dry ribs/disappointing ahi in another visit. Convenience backup. |
| [Vulcania](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=9221763873863173686), Village | 3.8 / 397 | [Yelp 3.6/562](https://www.yelp.com/biz/vulcania-mammoth-lakes-2) conflicts with positive Xiaohongshu posts. Downgraded, not erased. |
| [Shea Schat's](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=6289536722581838422), Mammoth | 4.2 / 1,236 | Xiaohongshu croissant sandwich. 3305 Main Street, not Bishop. Pickup done by 7:15 AM. |

| [Whoa Nellie Deli](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=17310946355992585089) | 4.5 / 1,130 | Xiaohongshu visits disagree. Lunch only: food ready by 1:25, depart around 1:45 PM. |
| [Pizza Factory](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=18126574870951668515), Groveland | 4.2 / 1,025 | Older positive Xiaohongshu report. Now a Saturday return-charge pickup option. |
| [Priest Station Cafe](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=2046447607514797695) | 4.6 / 1,580 | Google only. Historic setting after Groveland; additional meal stop, lower priority. Approach its upper end from CA-120, not Old Priest Grade downhill as a shortcut. Parking surface needs checking. |
| [Blaze Wings](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=4944853000669429146), Sonora | 4.6 / 124 | Google only. Wings/fries; nearest useful charger food, 2 minutes each way. |
| [Yoshoku](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=11997110281171206448), Sonora | 4.7 / 512 | Google only. Ramen/poke, 3-minute Maps walking estimate to the entrance; confirm the storefront. |
| [Escondite De La Torre](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=17656107111206445024), Sonora | 4.6 / 180 | Google only. Mexican plates; 7 minutes each way, for a longer planned break. |
| [Yianni's Grill](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=10758831872666818477), Sonora | 4.7 / 357 | Google only. Greek food/gyros; 8 minutes each way, lower timing priority. |
| [Jolly Kone](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=285343421080410685), Bridgeport | 4.6 / 397 | Google only. Burgers/soft serve; 7 minutes each way from Tesla. |
| [Chiles y Milagros](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=5978806887375264987), Bridgeport | 4.7 / 197 | Google only. Burritos/tacos and reviews mentioning vegan options; 10 minutes each way. |
| [Cocina Michoacana](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=10021367151240154784), Groveland | 4.4 / 999 | Google only. Classic Mexican food; 3-minute charger walk. |
| [Shelter Distilling](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=8480644636154544467), Village | 4.2 / 468 | Google only. Food/flatbread/nachos, 4-minute Westin walk. Convenience rather than a high-score standout. |

Skadi, Ursa and Vulcania list Friday **5-9 PM on Yelp**, but last seating and tables are unconfirmed. Friday opening snippets do not verify Saturday service. Walking routes above were measured; other food-driving detours remain unmeasured. Hungry Bear (Google 3.9) and Smokeyard (3.7) were checked but not added merely to inflate the list.

The Stove gets repeated good brunch comments, but a leisurely sit-down meal competes with lake time. Black Velvet coffee does not earn a separate stop. Iron Door Saloon has an older report of a **40-50-minute food wait** and uneven dishes: not a reliable fit for a tight charging break. Bishop's Erick Schat's and Big Pine's Copper Top BBQ pull the trip south; even enthusiastic reports do not outweigh that detour, and the BBQ post also has dissenting comments.

If carrying perishable takeaway for later, use a cooler; do not leave it in a warm car. No food orders or restaurant reservations were made.

## H. CA-108 versus CA-120: winding quantified

A separate agent measured public **OpenStreetMap/OSRM road geometry**, retrieved October 8 Pacific. Google Maps supplied the travel-time comparisons in Appendix C; it did not supply these winding metrics.

**The controlled summit comparison favors Tioga:** on exactly **10 km of road west + 10 km east of each summit**, Sonora accumulates about **2.2 times as much road-direction change per mile**.

| Section | Sonora / CA-108 | Tioga / CA-120 |
|---|---:|---:|
| Equal summit cores: 20 km / 12.4 mi each | **349 degrees/mile** | **159 degrees/mile** |
| Full mountain corridors, DIFFERENT endpoints | 236 degrees/mile over 87.1 km | 184 degrees/mile over 145.5 km |
| Most winding 20 km in each corridor, primary scale | 381 degrees/mile | 304 degrees/mile |
| Summit-core 95th-percentile turning across overlapping 200 m windows | 110 degrees | 60 degrees |

**Method:** equal 50 m road-distance sampling; direction estimated using a 100 m chord along the road; sum absolute changes in heading with angle wrapping, then divide by distance. Left and right bends both contribute. This is **road-heading change, not steering-wheel rotation**. The 200 m windows overlap and may contain multiple bends; they are not corner counts or individual hairpin angles.

**Sensitivity:** six combinations of 25/50/100 m sampling and 50/100/200 m smoothing put the summit ratio at **1.7-2.7x**, always more winding for Sonora. The worst-20-km comparison is scale-sensitive and becomes approximately tied at coarse smoothing; do not claim Sonora is worse everywhere.

**Scope:** full corridors are **Cold Springs -> Sonora Junction** and **Groveland -> Lee Vining junction**. Their endpoints/lengths differ, so the shorter Sonora corridor has less total accumulated turning (about 12,800 versus 16,600 degrees), despite higher turning per mile. US 395 and charger access roads are excluded, so long straight sections do not dilute Sonora's result. Priest Grade west of Groveland and CA-108 west of Cold Springs are outside this calculation.

Unsigned winding is identical in reverse, but braking/climbing demands are not. No grade, lane width, exposure, pavement, visibility, traffic, closures, safety probability or difficulty percentage is inferred. **2.2x winding does not mean 2.2x harder or more dangerous.**

**Route implication:** Sonora is the direct geographic fit for Twin Lakes. The new **Friday Tioga plan retains Bridgeport/Twin Lakes** with more backtracking and an 8 AM recommendation. Fewer/broader summit bends do not magically recover that time; an on-the-day late switch can still force changes.

## I. Pavement: bounded panorama sampling

The separate audit agent captured **48 images** and visually inspected **40 images / 39 distinct panoramas**, below the user's **100-image total ceiling**. This is representative sampling, **not** an assertion that every road, driveway and parking bay is paved. No more images were needed for this scope.

| Place / scope | What the samples support |
|---|---|
| Major pass/highway samples | Inspected portions of CA-108, US 395, CA-158 and Tioga/CA-120 were paved; not a continuous inspection of every connecting segment. |
| **Silver Lake Resort / Cafe** | **GRAVEL PARKING**, with paved CA-158 approach. No verified legal paved parking alternative established. If avoiding gravel, skip this lot and keep the scenic drive. |
| **Hot Creek · official source, not panorama** | USFS directions specify **2 miles paved, then 3 miles GRAVEL**. Skip if avoiding gravel or conditions are poor. No new image inspection. |
| June Lake Beach / Lundy Lake | Added after the image audit. Exact access/parking is **unverified**; no upper-canyon extension or private-campground parking assumed. |
| Lake Sabrina / Bishop Tesla | Optional extension added after the audit. Maps identity verified, exact parking/access surfaces **unverified**. No new images. |
| **Bridgeport Twin Lakes** | Saved pin lies on paved Twin Lakes Road. Gravel shoulders/side accesses visible; legal paved parking **unverified**. Do not enter an unknown pullout just to reach a pin. |
| Convict Lake / Shea Schat's | Paved access/marked parking visible in sampled views; walking trails are distinct from driving surfaces. |
| Groveland Tesla | Actual marked Tesla stalls and access visibly paved. |
| Sonora / Cold Springs / Bridgeport / Westin charging; Lee Vining gas mart | Paved approach samples do **not** prove present-day bays/parking, which remain **unverified**. Lee Vining is no longer a planned charge. |
| Dos Alas / Tavern Road backup; historical Tenaya / Olmsted | Exact last-mile access or parking **unverified**. Tenaya/Olmsted are no longer stops. |
| Eight newly added charger-food choices | Planned on foot from the charger, without a new restaurant driving leg. Walking paths were not separately pavement-sampled. |

**Routing correction:** the earlier cached return used about 3 km of **Old Priest Grade**, which sampled images show is paved. The issue was an unintended steep shortcut, not gravel. The map and navigation are now constrained through **CA-120/New Priest Grade**, using [OSM way 10699229](https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/10699229). That corrected grade was not separately panorama-sampled. It adds about 2.7 mapped miles; allow additional return buffer.

Imagery spans 2013-April 2026 and cannot establish current conditions, legal parking, pass openings, snow or charger operation. Full findings and sources are in **pavement-audit.json** and the collapsed table. Orange warnings distinguish Silver's sampled gravel parking from Hot Creek's officially reported gravel approach. The count remains **40 inspected / 48 captured**.
